I installed DynamIP over the weekend and
it is a wonderful program. Thanks! Thought you might be interest to hear how I'm
using it:We have a weekend farm (our retirement home in the future) some 50 miles
away. I have been playing with home automation for a couple of years now. I have the
PC scheduled to boot at set times (or I can power it up by phone). I am using a program
called NetLaunch to call my ISP (may use DynamIP instead) on
boot and start DynamIP, which then updates my Web page with the
current IP address.
I this point, I am running a local Web server for my home automation. Right now,
I can turn devices on and off (have heat or lights, even the hot water heater) before we
leave town and head for the farm. Now that I have DynamIP,
I will look at providing ways to change schedules and get status reports (including
security alarm status and maybe shoots from a Web cam) from anyplace with a Web browser.
I still have lots of issues to work out. Automated shut downs for one. But DynamIP
is a critical part of my implementation. I sure appreciate your willingness to share
this fine program.
Thanks from Indiana,
